Short term creative space – The Pavilion

Creative Spaces has a short-term opportunity open to all artists and creatives looking for a space to present or exhibit work. The space may also be used in combination as a development or work space*.

The Pavilion is centrally located in the Fitzroy Gardens next to the Tudor Village and Fairies Tree and is available for creative use between 1 July 2021 and 17 January 2022. Applicants will apply to utilise the space for one of two available time slots.

Available dates (inclusive of bump in and bump out):

  • Thursday 1 July 2021 - Thursday 30 September 2021
  • Friday 1 October 2021 - Friday 7 January 2022

Dates may be amended at the discretion of Creative Spaces.

Walkthroughs 

It is highly recommended that you attend a walkthrough of the space before submitting an application. Creative Spaces are conducting two walkthroughs:

  • Tuesday 18 May at 10am
  • Thursday 20 May at 10am

To attend a walkthrough it is essential to RSVP with your name, contact number and preferred time slot via creativespaces@melbourne.vic.gov.au.

Creative Spaces welcomes applications across all art forms that include a public outcome (for example, an exhibition).

Applying and exhibiting at The Pavilion is free for individuals, students, not for profit organisations, unfunded groups and organisations.

About the space:

  • Main internal area 175m2, plus amenity areas (store rooms, toilets)
  • Hours of use: 7am – 11pm
  • Paved terrace
  • 2.6m ceilings
  • Ramp access (note: assisted disabled access, no accessible toilet)
  • Load-in/out by negotiation only (to be kept at a minimum -  no vehicular access)
  • Air-conditioning
  • In-ceiling PA
  • Alarm system

Successful applicants will enter into a licence agreement for use outlining obligations, terms and conditions. The City of Melbourne's Property Services branch retains the right to access the property for activity related to a long term EOI. Any activity scheduled (ie. site inspections or signage installation) will be upon notice. For more information please contact Creative Spaces.

*Messy work or excessively loud practises are not permitted in The Pavilion. The space must not be damaged or altered.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

**COVID-19 PROTOCOLS**

Creative Spaces staff and contractors will be practising COVID Safe practices in line with the Department of Health and Human Services guidelines. 

IMPORTANT: If you feel unwell, have returned from overseas travel or have come in contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the two weeks leading up to attending the site, you must not attend and return home. Creative Spaces reserves the right to refuse your participation.
