Short term creative space – The Pavilion

Creative Spaces has a short-term residency opportunity open to all artists and creatives looking for a space to present or exhibit work. The space may also be used in combination as a development or work space*.

The Pavilion is located in the Fitzroy Gardens next to the Tudor Village and Fairies Tree and is available for creative use between October 2022 and March 2023. Applicants may apply to utilise the space for up to three months but no less than one month. 

It is highly recommended that you attend a walkthrough of the space before submitting an application. Creative Spaces are conducting three walkthroughs:

  • Tuesday 6 September at 2pm
  • Friday 9 September at 10am
  • Wednesday 14 September at 2pm

To attend a walkthrough it is essential to RSVP with your name, contact number and preferred walkthrough date via creativespaces@melbourne.vic.gov.au.

Creative Spaces welcomes applications across all art forms. 

Applicants will be asked about the specific public outcomes they intend to deliver (for example, an exhibition or performance/s) over the course of their residency.

Successful applicants will be required to provide simple reporting on residency outcomes throughout their time in the space. 

Applying and exhibiting at The Pavilion is free for individuals, students, not for profit organisations, unfunded groups and organisations.

About the space:

  • Main internal area 175m2, plus amenity areas (store rooms, toilets)
  • Hours of use: 7am – 11pm
  • Paved terrace
  • 2.6m ceilings
  • Ramp access (note: assisted disabled access, no accessible toilet)
  • Load-in/out by negotiation only (to be kept at a minimum)
  • Air-conditioning
  • In-ceiling PA
  • Alarm system

Successful applicants will enter into a licence agreement for use outlining obligations, terms and conditions. For more information please contact Creative Spaces.

*Messy work or excessively loud practises are not permitted in The Pavilion. The space must not be damaged or altered.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

SAVING YOUR DRAFT APPLICATION

If you wish to leave a partially completed application, press 'save and close' and log out. When you log back in and click on the 'My Submissions' link at the top of the screen, you will find a list of any applications you have started or submitted. You can reopen your draft application and start where you left off.

You can also download any application, whether draft or completed, as a PDF. Click on the 'Download PDF' button located at the bottom of the last page of the application form.

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

You will find a Review and Submit button at the bottom of the Navigation Panel. You need to review your application before you can submit it.

Once you have reviewed your application you can submit it by clicking on 'Submit' at the top or bottom of the screen or on the navigation panel. You will not be able to submit your application until all the compulsory questions are completed and there are no validation errors.

Once you have submitted your application, no further editing or uploading of support materials is possible.

When you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email with a copy of your submitted application attached. This will be sent to the email you used to register.

If you do not receive a confirmation of submission email then you should presume that your submission has NOT been submitted.
